Hybrid working will not happen on it’s own

To be effective, employers, leaders and L&D practitioners must build a skill set that will help employees in key parts of the business respond well to change.

Future Factory empowers teams and their leaders to respond to the challenge of remote working

We have seen time and time again that disempowered teams do not feel authorised to act on the information they have on the ground. They are often passive, take instructions and feel isolated from senior leadership. Disempowered teams misfire and magnify problems leading to poor retention, poor productivity, impacted mental health, and heightened compliance risks.

Leadership now have less oversight due to Remote/Hybrid working. Therefore, it is more important than ever to empower teams through clarity of purpose, trust and autonomy.

If implemented correctly, empowered teams do not only mitigate risk. They work with leadership interactively, they collaborate effectively with each other and they reflect on their performance. They can harness their expertise and on-the-ground information to deliver organisational success.

Our History

Future Factory has been designing, marketing, and distributing unique experiential learning tools since 1987.

In that time, we have supplied our tools to thousands of organisations around the world. We are globally recognised by our loyal customers as experts in our field with a brand synonymous with experiential learning that delivers results fast.

2018 was a pivotal year and was the first step in our digital journey. In partnership with a US multinational client, we built our first digital prototype of one of most popular analogue tools. The challenge we were presented with was to help them make matrix management work effectively when working remotely.

In 2020, having proven the route map from analogue to digital, we invested heavily, re-branding and launching a suite of 6 digital experiential learning activities.

As of 2021 we are building a world-class user experience as our customers migrate from analogue to digital in order to address the new order of hybrid working

1987 The apprenticeship

Our experiential learning apprenticeship began in 1987 when our founder piloted a 3 day computer simulation to help sales directors and leaders leverage sustainable sales performance from their teams.

1995 The honours degree

The honours degree level took place while our founder worked for Scottish Power plc. Creation of experiential learning tools that rapidly prototyped behaviour in a variety of Organisation and Management Development (OMD) settings, including acquisitions and mergers.

1996 A star is born

Establish “Future Factory” an 8000 sq. ft experiential learning lab in Edinburgh. Organisations from around the world came to develop high-performance teams.

1999 Productisation and scale

Future Factory evolved to design, manufacture and distribute portable experiential learning activities. We extended our portfolio to 25 activities. Globally, our clients use our tools to create dynamic and impactful learning environments.

2018 Collaborative innovation

In partnership with one of our US multi-national clients, we developed our first digital experiential learning tool for remote working. This would help them manage their highly dispersed and matrixed teams, where employees work in multiple teams with different functions across the world. Studies by CEB/Gartner, a global research and advisory company, show that more than 8 out of 10 employees are matrixed.

2020 Awarded grant from Innovate UK

We secure a grant from Innovate UK to digitalise our experiential learning activities in response to the challenge of remote working, accelerated by COVID-19.
